The Center for translational Imaging "From Molecule to Man (MoMAN)" at Ulm University is a DFG funded central coordinating unit. Imaging methods play an enormous role in biomedical research due to their huge potential for supporting translational research from the molecular level to final clinical evaluation. Translational imaging includes a wide interdisciplinary field and Ulm University has established institutions for addressing the demands of translational imaging at different scales.

This Entity is a Canonical Facility:

The aim of MoMAN is to bundle the activities of the Core Facilites at Ulm University, including the Core Facility Konfokale und Multiphotonen Mikroskopie (ät_Ulm) and the Central Facility for Electron Microscopy, by establishing a central coordinating unit and to provide comprehensive support for all aspects of translational imaging for the major medical research foci, comprising metabolic disorders, oncology, neurodegenerative and other neurological disorders, psychiatric disorders, cardio-vascular and inflammatory diseases and trauma. Also, MoMAN intends to further promote synergies between the different facilities in Germany to better pave the way for research advances in the field of translational biomedical imaging.

In addition to the numerous microscopy techniques MoMAN also offers translational imaging techniques for medical research such as Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Computer tomography (CT) and Positron emission tomography (PET). The Small Animal Imaging Core Facility allocates an ultrahigh field 11.7T MR imaging and spectroscopy system for non-invasive investigations in mice, rats and tissue samples and a µ-CT for high-resolution anatomic imaging. The Core Facility 3T MRI is running a whole-body MR scanner dedicated for research in the field of in-vivo human neuroscience.
